<p>How does a site appear first in a Google search page? Well first you need to know that Google’s algorithm is based on relevance multiplied by page rank. Relevance is a measure of how your website exactly matches the search phrase that an internet user inputs. For example you have a car dealership in Sacramento. Users looking for car dealerships in Sacramento will type in ‘used car deals, Sacramento”.  There’s a complicated process on how Google will search for these words in web pages but basically the more these search phrases appear in a title or in any of your web page the more relevant your page will be for the search engine. </p>
<p>Page rank is another measure of Google’s view of the credibility of a web page. This is not dependant on the relevance. Google ranks your content from a range of 0 to 10. If your website has the same relevance as another website but your page rank is better then you website will rank higher in the results page. Content counts. If it boils down to a Page Rank, your website needs to be better than your competitor. </p>
<p>Page rank is determined by how many other websites link back to yours. Google considers this as a recommendation from other users. So you’re thinking you just need to link to a bunch of other websites to get a better rank, wrong. Web pages with more credibility will weigh more than other websites. And you’ll know a web page is more credible if they have a better page rank. It’s like one complex web alright. You don’t need a hundred web pages with a page rank of 2 linking to your site; you need just a few links from a website that ranks 7.</p>
<p>You can find out what your page rank is by downloading the Google toolbar or a free program you can find on the web that will give you your page rank. You can use this to find out what pages are better to link with as well. </p>
